Week 102: Embrace The Imperfections

Image
Okay I'm gonna be completely honest, this last week was so hard. Everyone we had on baptismal date had to be taken off and we experienced a lot of rejection. And to top it off, on Saturday night we grabbed our bikes to head to a lesson and my front tire was flat. Over the 2 years I've been on my mission I have never had a flat tire, which was honestly a miracle, but I guess I wasn't going to get let off that easy haha. I finally got to use the extra tube I've been carrying around for 2 years! Needless to say though, this last week felt like a scooter to the ankle and every time I tried to get up the scooter swung back around.  BUT... we're not gonna focus on that. Here are the good things that happened this week:  - Chris and Rachelle came to church and got fellowshipped UP - We stopped by an inactive member and he said his kids and wife are interested in taking lessons and coming to church !! - Elder Christensen and I FaceTimed Rigo from Del Rio (a guy we taught) a...

Week 101: We Work For Jesus!

Image
We put Patrick on baptismal date for June 17th! He has some things to overcome but he has such a pure heart. Every time we call him he says, "Hello Mr. Chris!" in his heavy accent and I love it hahaha.  We taught Nichole and Hope the Word of Wisdom and Nichole will have to make a few changes but she's so willing and set on getting baptized.  We met a lady named Chazzmine this week and she thought we were the FBI at first haha but after we explained who we are she was quite enthusiastic. Her kids asked us who we work for so I said, "We work for Jesus!" Then the boy asked if we live with Him. I said, "One day!" It was so cute. Before we left they gave us hugs too. It made my week. Oh and speaking of children... the other week at a member's house their little girl kissed my butt and I was very taken off guard hahaha. She was trying to be sweet but her head just happens to be at the wrong height haha.  In the talk "Missionary Work and the Atonemen...

Week 100: The Freaks Come Out At Night

Image
We were tracting this week and had a weird experience. This is how it went down in the exact sequence that everything happened: We knocked on a door, a man answered the door, he asked what we were doing, we told him, he told us to come inside, we stepped inside, he showed us his grim reaper statues (yes, plurual), he said he worships death, he told us to remove ourselves, he pushed us out and closed the door. Honestly I'm kinda sad that he pushed us out so quick cause I had a lot of questions for him. I didn't know that death was even something someone could worship??  Some other weird experiences include: - A man telling us that the freaks come out at night and that we better hurry home - Another man yelling very aggressively at us asking for a quarter  - And another man that had a mat in front of his door that said "If you don't have weed, you cannot proceed". Unfortunately he was not interested.  Our basher friend, Abel, told us that he can't accept the Boo...

Week 99: Slip 'n' Slide

Image
This last week I did a slip 'n' slide on my bike! It was raining and I went to turn into an apartment complex, didn't turn sharp enough, and hit the concrete ledge with the side of my tire. Next thing I knew I was sliding across the concrete. Surprisingly there was no blood but I did get my shirt and tie really dirty. I got my last transfer news ever! Nothing is changing for Elder Taggart and I but we're getting two new people in our district. It's weird to think I'll be home in about 6 weeks. I went on exchanges with Elder Belliston in Valley Hi and we stopped by a man named Immanuel. He was so weird but SO funny. He was probably drunk haha. He gave us paintings he made and tried to explain them but I still can't tell what they are haha.  We also put our friend Eliannah on baptismal date for May 27th and hopefully we'll be putting a few of our other friends on date soon.  Our friend Nichole, who we met less than two weeks ago, and her daughter came to c...

Week 98: Give Them Heaven!

Image
As Brother Choi, our ward mission leader, says, "Give them heaven!". And that's exactly what we did this week. First of all, the Johnson boys, from Pleasanton, got baptized!! It was literally my life's mission to get those boys baptized so I was pretty overjoyed. It's been such a long time in the making.  We were very persistent with the people we taught this last week. Something I've learned over the course of my mission is to never take the first no. It doesn't always result in a yes but at least I gave them every opportunity I could to say yes.  We encountered a lot of bashers this last week and oh how my patience was tested. A lady told me to study the Bible with an open heart and I invited her to do the same. She didn't like that. Oops  Our friend Mokom told us that he is going to go back to Cameroon and establish our church there. He also said he'll bring me with him hahaha. Count me in! Luke 15:4-5 says, "What man of you, having an hund...
