Week 54: The Spirit Knows What's Up

Image
We started teaching 9 new people this week so now we have 39 people we're teaching. Some of them aren't really progressing though, so I guess it's time to let them go.  We met with Ketsaly and Cesar on Tuesday and felt like we needed to talk about baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Before we even started talking about it Ketsaly brought up baptism. Coincidence?? I think not. She thought it was pretty cool that we were already planning on talking about baptism and after more than an hour of talking with them, Ketsaly decided she wants to be baptized on July 12th!! We still need to teach her some of the big commandments though so please pray that she may overcome any obstacles she has with them.   Wednesday night we were walking around to close off the night and we started talking to these three old ladies sitting in their backyard named Leticia, Cecilia, and Choco. They told us they were of another faith and weren't too interested but we kept talking to them and ...

Week 53: Tarantulas

This last week was a hit or miss. All of our lessons would go through one day and all of them would cancel the next. But we're still plugging away! On Saturday we did service for 4 hours straight at the Coaltion Center and it was so fun!... and kinda stressful. I basically know how to do every job now except for translating haha.  We've started teaching a guy named Jonathan and he's cool but he smokes too much weed so he's not always all there when we talk to him. He really wants to come to church but he wants to stop doing drugs before he does. So pray that Jonathan can get over his weed addiction!! He has so much potential. Earlier last week we were stopping by people that live near the Amistad Reservoir. We went to stop by a woman who was previously taught, but when we knocked a guy answered and told us to come in. He was pretty nice but he would also make little jabs at our religion and told us that we're wrong. He also said this, and I quote: "Yeah that gu...

Week 52: One Year

This week I hit my 1 year mark! Isn't that crazy?? I'm growing up too fast  Last week was a little slower because of transfers so nothing too exciting happened but here are a few successes: ☆ I got a new companion and he's cool ☆ I didn't crash the truck on our 3 hour drive from San Antonio to Del Rio  ☆ We had a lesson with a guy named Frank and he started crying during his prayer and told us after that he just wants to get closer to God and he wants us to help him. Uhhh yeah that's literally my full time job right now so I'm down.  ☆ The CastaƱedas came to church and Cesar is going on the young men's campout this week! Talk about fellowship!! ☆ Some of our members brought their friends to church!! Let's go!!  ☆ I've avoided getting heat stroke... barely  ☆ We had a lesson with some inactive members and they want us to help them get to the temple. Oh and they fed us pizza  During my mission I've definitely had a fair share of trials, disappointm...

Week 51: I Went To Mexico??

Image
We went to Brackettville two times last week and had some bomb lessons!! We met with Elizabeth and she is very excited to read the Book of Mormon and learn more about what we believe! We also met her husband and some of her kids and they would like to meet with us as well!  We also met with Virgie and Antonia (her mom) twice! Virgie is the most prepared person I have met on my mission. She said she is searching for the truth and what church is right. Antonia had a lot of questions for us and was pretty skeptical at first. We gave her a picture of Christ to mark the chapter we assigned them and she held it up and looked back and forth from the picture to us hahaha. We realized she probably was concerned that we viewed the picture as an idol so we explained to her that we don't worship the picture and that it's just a reminder of Christ. She didn't seem completely satisfied but she let it go haha. We invited them to church and Virgie told us she wouldn't be able to make i...
