Week 85: Peace in Christ

Image
We put an 11 year old named Logan on baptismal date for February 19th! He's the son of an inactive member but his grandpa and grandma are super active. He's excited to be baptized! We had a lesson with the Johnson boys (These are the boys we visited with Elder Dunn of the Seventy) and I was the boldest missionary you've ever seen (In a good way. I hope). Their parents are members but the boys haven't been baptized because their mom wants them to be baptized in Lake Superior and that hasn't worked out. Basically these boys should've been baptized a long time ago and they are some of the most active kids in our ward so we were trying to get them to buckle down and finally choose a date to be baptized. The boys were all for it, one of them even said he would get in the font right then if he could. The parents said they couldn't choose a date right then so we told them that we would be asking what day they chose in one week from then. Hopefully the mom can give ...

Week 84: Cardi B Killed The Vibe

Monday night we put on friend BrieAna on date for baptism! We followed up on her praying about being baptized and I honestly thought she was going to say that she hadn't done it but she said she did and that the answer is yes! She wants some time to prepare herself so we set the date for March 18th.  We almost set a baptismal date with Fabian but he might want his girlfriend's dad to be here to baptize him and he's currently out of state working. Fabian said he'll pray about it and get back to us. We've also been doing some more member work and are starting to meet with some families who have unbaptized kids. Hopefully we can put some of them on date this week! One afternoon while walking down the street, we began talking with an electrician outside and he went off about how God doesn't exist. He basically told us that the existence of salt proves that there is no God? He wasn't very convincing. Then he gave us Squirts and the person he was working for came ...

Week 83: Turkey Chase

Y'all this week went by so fast. I barely remember what happened, but thanks to my companion I was able to be reminded of some things... On Monday night one of our lessons fell through and as we were walking away this lady asked if we could say a prayer for her. I immediately remembered that I had actually talked to her before and that her husband is an inactive member. Last time I saw them he told us that she has schizophrenia and to not talk to her. I felt bad just walking away though so she talked to us for awhile and said some really weird stuff. She said there's an old ugly Asian man watching her and that there's a clown that lingers around the neighborhood breaking lights at night. We finally said a prayer for her and were about to leave and then her husband walks out and talks to us for another 30 minutes. He was all over the place and asked for a priesthood blessing so we ended up going inside to give him one but got out of there real quick cause they were giving us...

Week 82: The Book of Norman & Murderers

Image
We had another crazy week!  We met a gang member and he told us about the different people he's killed (apparently out of self defense). He was talking about how he'd sit down and have a beer with Satan but that he also loves Jesus and has a tattoo of him on his shoulder. ??? That didn't really make sense to me. Anyways, we gave him a Book of Mormon cause he really needed it haha. Super wack experience.  We received a referral for a guy who lives in Jourdanton and he told us that a prisoner who murdered a family got loose, tried to break into his neighbor's house, and was shot in front of his house by his neighbor and the cops at the same time. He said he grabbed his AR15 and came outside but the guy had already been killed. In his own words he said, "They f*$%g riddled him with bullets!" It was the most Texan thing I've ever heard. Apparently these rural Texas towns are not as innocent as I thought they were.  One evening while in Floresville we decided t...

Week 81: A Divine Intervention

Hello!! Happy New Year!  I'm finally out of my blackout year! (The year of your mission where you start as a missionary and end as a missionary) It's crazy to me that I'll be home in less than 6 months.  We had some super awesome spiritual experiences this week. Mostly relating to our new friend, EJ. The day after Christmas, Elder Scott and I decided to go street contacting before dusk. When we got out of our truck, we were beginning to walk down the street and I had a spiritual prompting (not knowing it was a prompting at the time) to walk the opposite direction. Not even a minute later, we saw this guy talking on the phone and my companion was disappointed because he felt that we wouldn't be able to talk to him since he was busy. I felt another spiritual prompting to simply hold out a Jesus card and see if he would hang up the phone to talk to us. Well, he did just that and we ended up talking for an hour and a half. He also offered us weed and asked if we were Jehova...
