Bonus Email: Returning Home!

Image
I figured I’d give a little update on the last few days of mission and my return home! Monday and Tuesday were pretty normal missionary days. It felt really weird knowing I would never walk the streets or ride my bike as a missionary again.  On Wednesday all the departing missionaries met at the mission office and shared meaningful experiences and things we learned from our missions. Later on we went to the temple for an endowment session and it was amazing as always. I was able to find relief from stress I had been holding in and receive answers to questions I had. Gosh I love the temple. Then we went to the mission home, had an amazing dinner, and did a little devotional with President and Sister Fitzgerald.  I couldn’t sleep all night because of the anticipation and I couldn’t fall asleep on the plane either so I read like 5 chapters in the Book of Mormon and I may or may not have watched portions of avengers on someone else’s screen from across the isle. On the plane from ...

Week 105: The End

Image
We were riding to a lesson last Monday and this guy named Isaiah on the street stops us, gives us waters, and asks if we can say a prayer with him. We said a prayer with him at a crosswalk on a super busy road and he was so grateful. I'm gonna miss doing that.  Elder Taggart and I almost got absolutely destroyed by a very aggressive blind dog. I swear it was using echo location because it knew EXACTLY where we were and it wasn't afraid to chomp. After we got away my heart was pumping so fast haha. I really thought we were going to get bit. We met a basher mom!! We saw her outside with her kids and asked if we could read a scripture. She said yes so we read Helaman 5:12. She started asking some questions and it was going pretty well at first but then it quickly went south and she started bashing. At one point she told us that the Book of Mormon is useless... That made my blood boil a little but I kept my cool. She also told us that the Book of Mormon may be written by prophets b...

Week 104: Hard Work Ain't Pretty

Image
(This email is a week late because it randomly deleted last week so I had to rewrite it and send it today) Texas has decided to turn on broil mode and it's honestly killing me. It's going to be over 100⁰ + humidity this whole week so I think I might actually die. Within a matter of minutes after going outside I'm completely soaked in sweat, especially because we're biking. I've given up on looking nice, it's just not possible anymore haha. It's quite the experience! Here are some other experiences we had this last week: - The allergens in the air have also been picking up and I've been sneezing like crazy. One day while stopping by one of our friends I sneezed about 15 times in a row and just about fell over. I'm sure there's a recording of me on someone's security camera somewhere haha.  - A man drove by and yelled "Joseph Smith!" at us while we were biking. I hope that brightened his day.  - We got breakfast with Lola (she's t...

Week 103: Big Boss Mormon Guy

Image
Whew, this week was quite the week. We found a lot of new people and ran out of Book of Mormons one day because everyone we met wanted one. And they all lived in the same section of an apartment complex which was crazy. I guess it was a good problem to have??  Eva, one of the people we found, is pretty cool. We were riding by her house and I almost didn't stop cause it's kind of awkward to hit your breaks really hard and pull over but I felt like I needed to so we did. She told us she has friends who are members of our church and she was really open to our message! We should be having a lesson with her and one of her member friends this week! We met with a guy named Anthony and he's so prepared for the gospel. Sadly he spontaneously moved the next day though so we had to refer him to other missionaries.  Candy hasn't seen Patrick since last Monday and he doesn't have a phone right now so we have no idea where he is. Candy told us that we need to talk to our big boss...
