Week 72: Breakup Season

Image
People have been breaking up (saying they're not interested) with us left and right and we've also stopped teaching a large number of people this last week. Queue "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift. Jk they'll get another chance.  Oh and fun fact: We got locked out of our apartment Thursday night. Our apartment office lady came in clutch though and got us in. I thought we were gonna to need to use our pizza boxes as blankets haha.   We started teaching a guy named Michael and he's awesome! He met a member in Alaska while he was working there and then some sister missionary in England somehow started talking with him and then she referred him over to us. The missionaries here have been trying to set something up with him since the end of July and we were finally able to meet last week! In our first lesson he said he wanted to get baptized and in our second lesson we set a date with him! His dad and grandma joined the lesson as well and ab...

Week 71: Beware Of The Purple Paint

Image
So we randomly put 3 people on date? Well actually we already knew one of them wanted to be baptized. Her name is Laura Munro and she's the sweetest grandma in the world. I want to adopt her. She made snacks for us when we came for a lesson.  Her baptism will be this Sunday! The other people we put on date are Cynthia and Robert! They have been taught for awhile and have been on date for baptism twice but they always had something happen in their life that prevented them from getting baptized. We called them one morning and I got to know their situation and ended up setting up their wedding and baptism?? It was like way too easy. They decided they want our bishop to marry them on November 11th and to get baptized on the 13th so please pray that everything will go smoothly!  On Tuesday we stopped by a member's house who we thought were inactive but eventually found out that they go to the Spanish branch. Anyways... I read a scripture about building our foundation on Christ and ...

Week 70: The End Of An Era

Image
Leaving Del Rio last week was pretty hard for me. I'm gonna miss that place. I will always cherish the memories I made there.  I got to Pleasanton last Thursday and it's been wild ever since! This area is massive so we're driving a lot. We cover about 13+ small towns so figuring out our schedule for the day/week is pretty tough. If I'm being honest this area is quite the train wreck. My companion has no idea what's going on, most of the allotted miles we get to drive have already been used up, some people haven't been contacted in months, and the ward has not been working with us efficiently. I also had to clean the whole apartment when I got here because boys apparently don't know how to clean and I'm constantly killing cockroaches. Needless to say, I've been pretty stressed but I'm ready to get this area cleaned up and running.  Despite the craziness we've been able to find 5 new people to teach and someone we're teaching is ready to ge...

Week 69: I Got Struck Dumb (AKA Laryngitis)

Image
Sooooo remember how I said I was losing my voice? Yeah so I completely lost my voice by Monday night and it didn't come back till Thursday. I didn't feel sick anymore but since I couldn't talk all we could really do was service and member meals. Oh and we had a lesson with Ryan and Savannah... and by that I mean Elder Christensen did all the talking and I just sat there and nodded my head haha. Sadly the laryngitis destroyed my falsetto so I can't sing that well right now either. Hopefully that fixes itself or I will be sad.  Speaking of Ryan and Savannah... they got baptized on Saturday!! It was such a spiritual night oh my goodness. Savannah asked me to baptize her and one of our members who became friends with them baptized Ryan. When Savannah came out of the water she said, "That was awesome!" hahaha. Another awesome thing was that Ryan's parents talked and were in the same room for the first time in over 10 years. They even gave each other a hug! Isn...

Week 68: Missionary Superbowl!!

Image
Savannah and Ryan got married last Wednesday and had their baptismal interview yesterday so everything is good to go for their baptism this Saturday! They're so excited! We taught them the commandments this week and it amazed me how willing they were to follow them and to make immediate changes in their lives. Their faith is so inspiring to me. We found out that there's an activity scheduled at the church on October 11th so we moved Rigo's date to October 9th. We also taught him the commandments and he is totally willing to follow them but he's been a bit flaky recently so we're not sure if he'll be getting baptized on the 9th or not. Please pray for him!! Some other experiences we had this week include: - Teaching a girl with bipolar disorder and having to talk her out of ending her life - Cooking soup and washing dishes for a baptist preacher who is sick - Inviting someone to read in the Book of Mormon after teaching the whole restoration lesson and being reje...
