Week 97: Lots Of Wind And Sore Legs

Image
Everywhere we biked this last week there was wind pushing against us and I couldn't help but imagine Satan blowing in our faces trying to slow us down haha. It was so bad sometimes that I felt like I was barely moving forward. My legs are completely dead. But the work goes on. Nothing can stop us. People also really like to yell at us from their car or rev their engine right as they pass us. It's kind of annoying but it also keeps things interesting.  Kimiko was baptized! She has a long Hawaiian/Japanese name so I was scared I was going to pronounce it wrong when I baptized her but her mom said I pronounced it really well. They also got temple recommends so hopefully we'll be going to the temple with them on May 17th! We're now teaching 3 people from Africa! One from Nigeria, one from Burundi, and one from Cameroon. Patrick (the guy who yelled "Mormons!") is the one from Burundi. We had a lesson with him yesterday and he was much more normal this time. There w...

Week 96: We Arranged A Marriage??

Image
Wow what an eventful week! First off, we literally arranged a marriage. I didn't know that was in my job description haha. So here's the story... We met an inactive member (Julian) and his fiance (Eliannah) a few weeks back and finally were able to set up a lesson with them this past week. We taught them the restoration and they asked if we could help them get married in the church. We contacted the Bishop, got Julian's records moved into our ward, and set up the marriage for the next day. Julian and Eliannah asked if we could be the witnesses and of course we said yes. They thought their marriage license expired a couple days later but as the Bishop was signing it he realized it expired that day! It's crazy how things just lined up. Julian also told us that the same day we met them missionaries found his mom and brother who are also members. How cool is that? Anyways, Eliannah is interested in baptism as well so hopefully we'll put her on date soon! As we were ridi...

Week 95: A Stressful Week And Triumphant Easter Weekend

Image
This week was very stressful. Osama is struggling with some things and may not be getting baptized and we had to take Charity off date because we haven't been able to get in contact with her. Once again, many of our friends didn't show up to church and a lot of our lessons fell through. Things have just not been going as planned and Elder Taggart has been quite aloof, taking into account that it is only his second week in the mission field. I'm just absolutely drained.  BUT, there's always a bright side: - Jose is set for his baptism on Saturday as far as we can tell. Please keep him in your prayers.  - We biked in this super heavy mist rain stuff and got absolutely SOAKED. I thought I was going to be upset about it but it ended up being really fun and refreshing.  - We had lunch on Easter with this random couple we just met and they fed us really good fish. They also fed us shrimp cocktail (without alcohol of course) and I've only ever had popcorn shrimp once in my...

Week 94: I Met John the Baptist

Image
Yep, that's right. John the baptist. In the flesh. He was surprisingly not very nice, he took a Jesus card though! I got my trainee, Elder Taggart, on Wednesday and the next day he almost got hit by a car. Someone honked at us and sped by about 4 inches away from Elder Taggart. It made me very upset.  Scott decided to stop meeting with us. It was really sad. I know he has a testimony of the Book of Mormom but he's just doubting it right now. Osama had to reschedule his baptism as well because his wife's dad passed away.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers! Oh we also had General Conference this last weekend!! It was amazing! We watched one of the sessions with our friend Jose and the Ayala family. Brother Ayala had us try Carolina Reaper hot sauce while we were there and it was very very hot. It was fun though! So far it's been a pretty eventful first week for Elder Taggart. It's starting to get hot so we're sweating a lot on the bikes but it's wo...
