Week 58: Vanilla Almond Lemon Pepper Broccoli Mac & Cheese
It's a new transfer with a new companion and we kicked it off running! Literally and figuratively haha.
We found 6 new people to teach and 4 of our friends came to church! We also ran to the church, played basketball, and ran back the first morning of the transfer. I haven't ran in forever so my legs literally PASSED away and I've barely been able to walk since.
So we ran into Regal again and he quizzed us on what we read in the Bible. He was a little less crazy this time though and accepted a Book of Mormon! I guess we'll see where this goes haha.
We went to church with Victoria the other week and I forgot to mention it (Russell was working so he couldn't make it)! We made an agreement that if they came to our church we would visit theirs so we went on a Wednesday. It was more like a Bible study but everyone was super nice!
We also had a meeting with a Southern Baptist pastor named Matt. It was pretty interesting to see the similarities and contrasts in our beliefs. We both believe in Jesus Christ which is the most important thing though!
On Wednesday morning we had breakfast at IHOP with Leticia and Cecilia and I honestly had the best time. They're the cutest old catholic ladies I've ever met. They had really good questions for us and wanted to understand our beliefs. They also said they want to come to our weddings?? I think they're planning a little too far in advance but I will probably cry if they actually come.
As for the title of my email, let me tell you a little story... So I wanted to eat mac and cheese for lunch but all I had was almond milk. I figured almond milk would be sufficient but I failed to acknowledge the fact that it was vanilla almond milk. I also wanted to spice it up a bit so I added lemon pepper and broccoli. It tasted pretty weird and I think I added too much lemon pepper as well. Honestly it wasn't horrible but I would definitely not recommend mixing all of those ingredients. Just a life tip for ya.
I was studying a general conference talk given by Dale G. Renlund the other week and I wanted to share a quote from it. He said: "My heart aches for those who face such unfairness, but I declare with all my aching heart that Jesus Christ both understands unfairness and has the power to provide a remedy. Nothing compares to the unfairness He endured. It was not fair that He experienced all the pains and afflictions of mankind. It was not fair that He suffered for my sins and mistakes and for yours. But He chose to do so because of His love for us and for Heavenly Father. He understands perfectly what we are experiencing."
Life is a test and God wants to see if we will become hardened or softened by the trials we face. We experience these things to grow and strengthen our faith, but it all depends on our outlook. Knowing that all that is unfair about this life will be resolved in the next can give us hope, but that takes faith and perseverance. Though it is difficult at times for me to have an eternal perspective, I know that Christ can provide me with strength and healing in this life and help me endure till the day when all that is broken will be fixed.
Here is the link to the talk if you want to listen to it!
