Week 49: Am I A Missionary Or A Therapist?
In this episode of Elder Christensen's mission, we're going to be considering the question, "Am I a Missionary or a Therpist?"
Some people seem to have this special kind of trust with missionaries to where they are comfortable sharing every single thing that has happened in their life. And they will vent to us about all their struggles for extended periods of time. After which we will give them advice and things to work on. We had one of these experiences last week and it made me think about how we're kinda like therapists haha. Sometimes people just unload all their baggage on us and we can't even get a word in but I'm glad they can trust us!
We did approximately 10,000 hours of service last week and it was awesome! Most of it was on Saturday and we barely even had time to eat. We also had 6 lessons scheduled and we had no cell service all day. It was insane.
Elder Jose Alonso, a general authority in our church, visited our mission and our branch! He spoke to our mission on Friday so we had to drive up to San Antonio... again! He also came to our branch on Sunday, along with our District President and Mission President, and spoke! We tried so hard to get all of our friends to church and when the meeting started no one had shown up. I was mega sad cause we had 10 people say they were gonna come. Then about 5 minutes in, Yolanda walked in!! We have been trying to get her to church for a very long time so we were extremely happy! Also an inactive member we've been working with came! A few of our friends watched on zoom as well cause they were out of town.
We had some good lessons last week but I'm gonna wait to talk about the people until they start progressing cause sometimes I think we find someone golden and then they fall off the face of the earth. We teach people on the spot here a lot and it's really helping me improve my teaching/social skills! It's testing my knowledge too so I'm studying even harder.
All in all, being on a mission is insanely exhausting but also a super fun crazy rollercoaster full of highs, lows, and tons of personal growth!
We have been using the "Ask of God" video in our lessons a lot recently so I wanted to show it to y'all as well! It's a pretty bold claim that Joseph Smith saw Jesus Christ and God the Father but we can gain a testimony of this by reading the Book of Mormon and asking God if Joseph Smith translated it by the power of God. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and his experience is a true claim.
