Week 47: Tornado Watch!!
On Wednesday there was a fat storm that rolled in and all the streets flooded. It was so exciting. Frank (our truck) handled it like a boss. There was also a tornado watch. Not gonna lie, I wanted to see a tornado, but it didn't happen... which is probably a good thing I guess.
This week we also had an old Baptist lady sing to us and we didn't know what to do haha. She's the grandma of some kids in our branch that got baptized recently. She was telling us about how much she loves Jesus and then just burst into song. Her name is Gloria and her vibrato is on point.
On my exchange with Elder Miller (my district leader) we started talking to a guy named Steve on the street. He works with a member and has read some of the Book of Mormon but can't believe in it because he doesn't think he can know the truth of it through "feelings" or in other words, the Spirit. I asked him what he thought the purpose of the Spirit is and he said "to lead us and help us know right from wrong". I agreed and we talked about how the Spirit can testify of truth. He still wasn't totally convinced and he has a lot of arguments against our faith but he said he'd meet with us. We'll see how it goes!
In honor of Steve, here is the verse in the Bible and the Book of Mormon explaining the purpose of the spirit:
John 16:13
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
1 Nephi 10:19
"For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round."
There are a lot scriptures that talk about the purpose of the Spirit but I really liked these ones. In John we are taught that the spirit will guide us to all truth and in the 1 Nephi we learn that when we diligently seek truth, it will be revealed to us by the Holy Ghost. In a world where there are so many lies and deceptions that can lead us away from the light of Jesus Christ, we have the guiding influence of the spirit that can help us know what is right and wrong. I know if you diligently seek and ask for the spirit to reveal the truth to you, you will receive answers.
