Week 44: Happy Zombie Jesus Day
Happy Easter y'all! Or as the lady outside my apartment said, "Happy Zombie Jesus Day" (yeah probably not the best thing to say).
This last week we busted our butts trying to get people to church. We were very busy texting, calling, stoping by, encouraging, and consoling people but no one came... even the people who said they would be there. BUT 5 other people came that we didn't invite!! Miracles are real! It may not have turned out how I expected but I was happy nonetheless! One of the people that came was the friend of a member. Her name is Suzy and we might start teaching her. She's hilarious.
Last Monday Elder Neddo and I were tracting and we were not having much success. We were about to leave but we decided to knock on one more door and the nicest man answered. He started talking to us before we could even get in a word. He basically invited himself to church and set up another appointment with us so that was pretty cool. Sadly he's sick right now so we might not be able to meet with him until next Monday. His son, Jay, was so cute too. When Juan introduced himself, Jay said, "What about my name?" And when we gave Juan a Book of Mormon, Jay said, "Can I have one?" He's probably like 7 so I was really surprised how interested he was in what we had to say haha. Honestly, after that interaction I was a little skeptical cause it's very rare you find someone that nice and interested in what we have to say, but I have hope.
We also met with Ruben on Monday and he said he's starting to read the Book of Mormon again!! We didn't even invite him to do that so I'm really proud of him. He wants to come to church too but he's scared. We spent a lot of time trying to comfort and encourage him so I'm hoping that worked and he will be brave enough to come this coming Sunday. Please pray for him!
Oh!! We got back in contact with Austin! We were trying to get ahold of him ever since our last appointment fell through and we would always get sent straight to voicemail and he was never home when we stopped by. We stayed persistent though and he finally answered us! I'm not sure why he didn't respond to us for so long but we set up a lesson for this Wednesday!
For my spiritual thought I'm going to piggyback off of a video Elder Holland posted recently on Facebook. He pointed out a few verses that explain how Mary Magdalene, Mary (Jesus's mother), and the apostles reacted when they found out Christ is risen. In Matthew 28:8 it says, "And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word" and in John 20:2-4 it says, "Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre". Elder Holland points out how quick they were to tell others of the good news and how they ran to find the empty tomb. I love what we can learn from these verses. A true follower of Christ is not static. We must be quick to help our neighbors and share the love of Jesus Christ. As a missionary I have felt the urgency in sharing the great news of our Savior and I hope to keep the same passion for this work after I'm done with my mission. This is the most important thing we can be sharing with people, so run and tell others of the good news!
This Easter video is actually about the exact verses I was talking about. You should watch it! It's so good!
