Week 41: The Heat Is Upon Us

Happy Monday everyone! This week felt like it lasted an eternity and the blink of an eye at the same time. It's also super hot already. As my mission president once said, "It goes from hot to blast furnace". Thankfully we're just in the hot stage right now.

We unloaded a 26 ft. truck on Saturday for a lady named Christina and 75% of it was Halloween decorations haha. She LOVES Halloween. Maybe a little too much... but it was fun nonetheless! We're not sure what her interest level is but at least we made a good impression.

We went contacting at McAllister Park (a huge park that literally takes up about a quarter of our area) and we started talking to this couple. The man asked why we were dressed up so we told him we were missionaries etc etc. Then we read a scripture and he started asking some deep questions. He seemed really interested but I also felt like he might be a pastor of another church or something haha. His wife was giving me member vibes though so I was real confused. We eventually got his number and were setting up a time to meet and he told us they were members. He done tricked us! I was honestly kinda disappointed but they said they haven't been back to church in about 8 months and they also invited us over for dinner! So I guess it ended up being a success? Very weird interaction though.

This week we found some new people, Moses and Joshua! Moses is a new dad and is super chill. Joshua is the son of a pastor so we're praying he doesn't want to bash.

We had lessons with Sandy, Tia, and Ruben this week as well! Sandy didn't want to read the Book of Mormon but the member we brought with us boldly told her she needs to read it so she changed her mind haha. Tia loves everything about the gospel and really wants to get involved with the church. We're trying to set up a temple tour with her too! Ruben is struggling right now. We felt like we should call him one day and he was having a really hard time. We ended up talking to him for over 30 minutes on the phone bearing testimony of God's love and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I hope it made a difference for him. Please pray for him. He really needs the help.

While studying yesterday I came across this scripture and I felt like I read it specifically for Ruben. But it applies to all of us! It says, "Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me" (3 Nephi 9:14). I love this scripture because it outlines how we recieve God's help. We have to come unto Him, which requires effort on our part. Heavenly Father has granted us the amazing gift of agency, which means he will not force anything upon us. Does God have the power to fix our problems and make everything better? Of course! He's all powerful. But that would defeat the purpose of our life and compromise our agency. God's arm is always extended to us and it's our responsibility to grab hold of His hand.

Have a great week!
