Week 30: A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Helloooo... here's the rundown of our disastrous week:
We stopped by someone's house the other day cause it's been awhile since missionaries had talked to him and he was literally on his death bed. His daughter answered the door and we asked how he was doing (not knowing he was sick) and she said he had about 1 hour to live. so uhhh that was really awkward and sad. Bless their poor family. Great timing though right??
Sooo we got dog poop on our bike tires and we didn't know until we brought them into our apartment... and then for some reason I decided to try and get it off with paper towels and that didn't work out very well. So now we have exiled them to the balcony and if anyone wants to steal them they'll get a nice surprise.
This morning I got two aggressive drivings!! The first one was definitely my fault, but it gave me a second one when I sped up to get on the highway. Thanks tiwi (tiwi is the little computer we have in our cars that gives us violations if we don't drive correctly, but she's not always fair).
The other week we met a couple named Comfort and Derek while stopping by some of our friends. They were really nice and seemed super interested in meeting! They stood us up the other day though so now we're kinda second guessing things. But we have hope that they'll respond. Please pray for them!!
There's a lot of disappointment that accompanies missionary work and it can be really hard to deal with sometimes. I've been out for almost 7 months now and I have yet to even see one baptism... but I have seen and helped so many people come closer to Christ and progress on the covenant path! Needless to say, my mission experience has not been exactly what I expected, but I'm truly grateful for this time I get to be a full-time servant of my Heavenly Father and represent my Savior. Nothing in my entire life will ever compare to this time that I get to be a missionary. Even if I baptize 0 people on my mission, I can be satisfied with the fact that I gave it my all and that I have become fully converted to Jesus Christ and His gospel!
Since this email was a bit of a downer here are some positives!
- We are helping our friend LJ move on Friday and he said him and his daughter want to come to church this Sunday!
- We stopped by another friend who hadn't been contacted in awhile and he wants to meet!
- We have become really close with all our ward members and they're very excited to assist us in helping more people come unto Christ!
- I got a new Book of Mormon and I'm ready to start fresh with a more organized way of studying!
- We had an amazing Sunday school class with the youth on loving our neighbors yesterday
Speaking of loving our neighbor here's the scripture of the week:
Mathew 22:37-39
"37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
We talked about how giving specific compliments is a great way to show love to others. Which is so true! Just a simple thing like that can really brighten someone's day. So I'd invite y'all to give someone a specific compliment this week and spread the love!
We have famous members in our ward!! Read this story if you wanna see why (The Cowarts mentioned in the story are their parents)
Feel free to email me anytime! I'd love to hear from y'all and what's going on in your life!
